How to use them
The easy and medium puzzles include a word bank so kids can solve by elimination — they teach crossword mechanics, not vocabulary by attack. The four hard ones drop the bank. We recommend starting with the easy puzzles even for older kids so they get a sense of the format. Once they're comfortable with crossings and clue-reading, the harder puzzles add real challenge. Great for: road trips, classroom enrichment, library quiet hours, and waiting-room sanity.
What this builds
Crossword puzzles are spelling, vocabulary, and reading-comprehension practice in disguise. Solving a clue requires reading carefully, narrowing meaning, then cross-checking letters — three skills at once. The word bank lowers the entry barrier, which matters: kids who try crosswords without a bank tend to give up. With a bank, they learn to enjoy the format.
