What's inside the PDF

  • Ten 20×20 grids — at least 25 words each.
  • Words run in all eight directions including diagonals and backwards.
  • Mixed themes: world capitals, weather, science, mythology, U.S. presidents, vocabulary builders, music, kitchen, ocean life, and a Halloween bonus.
  • Answer key at the back — every grid with every word circled.

How to use them

Print one puzzle per sheet or two-up to save paper. We tested at A4 and US Letter; both fit the 20×20 grid without crowding. These aren't kindergarten word searches. Words overlap, diagonals are common, and the lists are long enough that you'll need to come back to a puzzle in pieces. We aimed for the difficulty level of a Sunday-paper crossword, not a kids menu. Great for: older kids on a long flight, a parent who wants their own quiet hour, classroom enrichment, and waiting-room sanity.

What this builds

Word searches don't get enough credit. They train pattern-scanning, sustained attention, and visual working memory — and at this difficulty level, they're a real cognitive workout. Older kids who beat through the easy stuff at school enjoy a puzzle that actually pushes back. For adults, this is the kind of low-effort focus activity that does what sudoku does without the math.
