How to use them
Fold it into a bag and forget about it until you need it. Hand over the table-only I-spy first for the smallest kids — everything on that page is within reach of their own chair, so it works before the food arrives and before they've looked around the room. The table-talk questions are the sleeper hit: read one out and make the grown-ups answer first. They're the difference between a table of people on phones and a table of people talking.
What this builds
Observation and patience, and a bit of turn-taking. But the real function is behavioral: it gives a three-year-old a legitimate thing to do in a chair for twenty minutes, which is the whole ballgame when you're eating out.
